Not long ago we had a person in our worship services who was what I would call a “disruptive” worshiper. This person was shouting and carrying on so much that she became a major distraction to other worshipers. Don’t get me wrong…I am all for high energy and loud vocal praise. But we also need to be sensitive to our environment. God is a God of order, not of chaos. I don’t think He appreciates us competing for His glory or drawing attention to ourselves through unnecessary means. Genuine emotional response to the moving of the Spirit is one thing. Careless antics meant to draw attention to ourselves is quite another. Jesus warns us to not be like the Pharisees in this matter. Intimate moments with God in corporate worship are a beautiful thing. But always remember there are those around you who may not know Him.
