We hear that word all that time…especially on Palm Sunday. We equate this word to that moment when the children of Israel were shouting praise to Jesus as he made His triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Interestingly, we always assume the word Hosanna is a term of praise. But actually, it is a plea for salvation. When those people were shouting “Hosanna” to Jesus, what they were actually saying was “Please save us!” or “I beg you to deliver us!” They were correct in their assessment that Jesus was, in fact, the Messiah. And He still is. And He always will be. So the next time you hear that word, ‘Hosanna’ be reminded that Jesus is your Messiah and your King. He alone is the author of your salvation, and He alone is worthy to be praised.
